About Waldmire Mural

This mural that celebrates Route 66 in the unique styling of Bob Waldmire was painted over a two-year period of time. The legendary artist, an internationally recognized pioneer in the Route 66 renaissance movement, finished the work in 2006.

Waldmire often had his iconic VW bus, inspiration for the Filmore character in the animated movie Cars, serviced at TNT Auto Center housed in the historic McCarthy Motors Ford dealership.

The mural is painted on the wall of a building that housed The Tavern for decades. Barroom scenes in Roadhouse 66, a 1984 film starring Willem Dafoe and Judge Reinhold, were filmed at this location.
