About the Little Red School House

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the “Little Red Schoolhouse” was constructed in 1896. It was the first city’s first school and remained in use until 1928. Legendary character actor Andy Devine was a student at this school. After its closure it was used as a meeting hall and event center for groups such as the Christian Scientists and civic organizations. During WWII it was used as offices for the ration board. It next served as the offices for the chamber of commerce and as the city library.  It is currently used as the city magistrate’s office.”
